The CR-1 Visa is an immigrant visa that allows the spouse of a U.S. citizen to enter the United States as a conditional permanent resident. It is intended for couples who have been married for less than two years at the time the visa is granted. Once in the U.S., the foreign spouse receives a Green Card with “conditional” status.

To qualify, the couple must:
✅ Have a legally valid marriage
✅ Provide proof of a genuine relationship (photos, communication records, joint accounts, etc.)
✅ The U.S. citizen spouse must file a Petition for Alien Relative (Form I-130)
✅ Meet financial requirements to sponsor the foreign spouse (Affidavit of Support – Form I-864)
✅ Complete background checks and required medical exam
Upon approval, the spouse receives a 2-year conditional Green Card
Before the end of 2 years, the couple must file Form I-751 to remove conditions and obtain a 10-year Green Card
