F2-B Visa

HomeServicesF2-B Visa

F2B Visa (Family Second Preference – Unmarried Adult Children of Green Card Holders)

The F2B Visa is a family-based immigrant visa that allows unmarried adult children (21 years or older) of U.S. Green Card holders (lawful permanent residents) to immigrate to the United States as permanent residents. It is part of the Family Second Preference (F2) category.

What is an F2B Visa?

The F2B Visa is specifically designed for adult children (21 or older, unmarried) of Green Card holders. Unlike the F2A Visa, which is for spouses and minor children, the F2B Visa helps parents reunite with their grown, unmarried children in the United States.

Once approved, the beneficiary enters the U.S. as a lawful permanent resident and receives a Green Card to live, work, and study in the United States permanently.

Why Choose an F2B Visa?

  • Enables family reunification for permanent residents and their adult children.

  • Grants permanent resident status upon entry.

  • Beneficiaries can work and study freely in the U.S.

  • Direct pathway to U.S. citizenship after meeting eligibility.

  • Provides stability and long-term opportunities in the U.S.

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for an F2B Visa:

  • The petitioner must be a lawful permanent resident (Green Card holder).

  • The beneficiary must be the unmarried son or daughter (21 years or older) of the Green Card holder.

  • Proof of parent-child relationship must be provided (birth certificate, adoption papers, etc.).

  • The Green Card holder must meet the financial sponsorship requirements to support the child.

F2B Visa Process

  1. Petition Filing (Form I-130): The Green Card holder files the petition for their unmarried adult child.

  2. USCIS Approval: The petition is reviewed and approved, then forwarded to the National Visa Center (NVC).

  3. Visa Availability (Priority Dates): The F2B category is subject to annual visa limits, so applicants must wait for their priority date to become current, as listed in the U.S. Visa Bulletin.

  4. NVC Processing: Submission of civil documents, affidavit of support (Form I-864), and visa fees.

  5. Consular Interview: The applicant attends an interview at the U.S. embassy/consulate.

  6. Visa Issuance & Entry: Once approved, the beneficiary enters the U.S. as a permanent resident and receives a Green Card.

Documents Required

  • Birth certificate of the applicant.

  • Passport and identity documents.

  • Proof of Green Card holder’s permanent resident status.

  • Evidence of parent-child relationship.

  • Affidavit of Support (Form I-864).

  • Financial documents of the sponsor (tax returns, pay stubs, etc.).

  • Medical examination report.

  • Additional supporting documents as requested by USCIS/NVC.

How We Help

We provide complete assistance throughout the F2B Visa process, including:

  • Filing the I-130 petition accurately and on time.

  • Tracking visa priority dates and keeping you updated on the Visa Bulletin.

  • Helping prepare strong documentation to prove family relationships.

  • Handling NVC submissions and consular interview requirements.

  • Guidance and support until Green Card approval.

Timeline & Processing Time

  • USCIS Petition Processing: 12–18 months (approx.)

  • NVC Processing: 3–6 months

  • Wait for Visa Availability: Often several years due to annual visa caps and long backlogs.

  • Consular Interview & Visa Issuance: 1–2 months
(The F2B Visa typically has longer waiting times compared to F2A due to limited visa numbers.)

F2B vs. F2A Visa

  • F2A Visa: For spouses and unmarried children under 21 of Green Card holders.

  • F2B Visa: For unmarried sons and daughters aged 21 or older of Green Card holders.

  • Ongoing monitoring of visa priority dates and backlogs.
